Amish Applesauce Cake

  • 2 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon nutmeg
  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup vegetable oil
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1.5 cups applesauce
  • 1 cup chopped walnuts or pecans

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, salt, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • In a separate bowl, combine sugar, oil, eggs, and vanilla extract. Mix well.
  • Add the wet ingredients to the dry ingredients and mix until just combined.
  • Stir in the applesauce and nuts.
  • Pour batter into prepared pan and bake for 40-45 minutes, or until a wooden skewer inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool completely before frosting or serving.

Notes

This cake is even better the next day! Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
