Cheesy Baked Pasta

A comforting and cheesy baked pasta dish perfect for family dinners. This recipe combines tender pasta with a rich sauce and is topped with melted cheese.

Ingredients
  

For the Sauce

  • 0.25 cup butter
  • 1 medium onion chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic minced
  • 0.33 cup all-purpose flour
  • 2 cups milk
  • 1 cup tomato sauce
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon dried oregano
  • 1 tablespoon fresh basil chopped

For the Pasta and Cheese

  • 1 package beef tortellini 350g package
  • 1 head broccoli cut into florets
  • 2 cups cheddar cheese shredded
  • 0.5 cup Parmesan cheese grated

Preparation Steps

  • Melt butter in a large saucepan. Add in onions and garlic. Sauté over medium heat for 3 minutes. Sprinkle on flour and stir. Cook an additional 3 minutes.
  • Whisk in milk and bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and add in tomato sauce, salt, oregano, and basil. Cook on medium-low for 15 minutes, stirring occasionally.
  • Meanwhile, cook tortellini and broccoli in boiling water for 3 minutes. Drain.
  • Add drained tortellini and broccoli to the sauce mixture. Stir in the shredded cheddar cheese.
  • Pour the mixture into a 9x13-inch casserole dish and sprinkle the grated Parmesan cheese on top. Bake at 350°F (175°C) for 20 minutes, or until golden and bubbly.

Notes

This baked pasta is best served hot. Leftovers can be stored in an airtight container in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
