Prep : 10 Total : 25 minutes

Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 cup Warm Water (105-115°F)
  • 1 tsp Sugar
  • 2.25 tsp Active Dry Yeast
  • 2.5 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Salt
  • 0.25 cup Baking Soda
  • 8 cups Water for boiling
  • 0.5 cup Melted Butter
  • 0.5 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 2 tsp Ground Cinnamon

Instructions

Preparation Steps

  • In a large bowl, dissolve sugar and yeast in warm water. Let stand for 5 minutes until foamy.
  • Add flour and salt to the yeast mixture and mix until a shaggy dough forms. Turn the dough out onto a lightly floured surface and knead for 5-7 minutes until smooth and elastic.
  • Place the dough in a lightly oiled bowl, turning to coat. Cover with plastic wrap and let rise in a warm place for 1 hour, or until doubled in size.
  • Preheat oven to 425°F (220°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large pot, bring 8 cups of water to a boil. Add baking soda.
  • Punch down the risen dough and divide it into 8 equal pieces. Roll each piece into a long rope (about 1 inch thick) and cut into 1-inch pieces.
  • Drop the pretzel bites into the boiling water in batches and cook for 30 seconds. Remove with a slotted spoon and place on the prepared baking sheet.
  • Bake for 12-15 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • While the pretzel bites are baking, melt butter in a small bowl. In another bowl, combine granulated sugar and cinnamon.
  • While still warm, brush the pretzel bites with melted butter and then toss in the cinnamon sugar mixture until well coated.
  • Serve immediately and enjoy!

Notes

For best results, serve these pretzel bites warm. You can store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature for up to 2 days. Reheat in the oven for a few minutes to restore their crispness.
