Classic Apple Pie Filling

  • 6 cups Apples, peeled and sliced Granny Smith or Honeycrisp
  • 0.75 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 0.25 cup Brown Sugar, packed
  • 2 tablespoons Cornstarch
  • 0.5 teaspoon Cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon Nutmeg
  • 1 tablespoon Lemon Juice
  • 2 tablespoons Butter Cut into small pieces

Preparation Steps

  • In a large bowl, combine apples, granulated sugar, brown sugar, cornstarch, cinnamon, and nutmeg.
  • Gently toss to coat the apples evenly.
  • Add lemon juice and butter. Stir to combine.
  • Pour the apple mixture into a saucepan.
  • Cook over medium heat, stirring frequently, until the apples soften and the sauce thickens (about 10-15 minutes).
  • Remove from heat and let cool before using.

This filling can be made ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.
