Gingerbread bars

Delicious and chewy gingerbread bars perfect for the holidays. These bars are packed with warm spices and molasses for a classic gingerbread flavor.

  • 2.75 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 teaspoons ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cloves
  • 0.5 teaspoon baking soda
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 1 cup packed brown sugar
  • 1 cup molasses
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 cup powdered sugar for glaze (optional)
  • 2 tablespoons milk for glaze (optional)

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease and flour a 9x13 inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, baking soda, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, cream together butter and brown sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in molasses and eggs.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
  • Let cool completely before frosting (if using). Whisk together powdered sugar and milk for glaze.
  • Cut into bars and serve.

Notes

These gingerbread bars are delicious served warm or at room temperature. Store leftovers in an airtight container.
