  • 1 cup granulated sugar
  • 1 tbsp ground ginger
  • 1 tsp ground cinnamon
  • 0.5 tsp ground cloves
  • 0.5 tsp ground nutmeg
  • 1 cup molasses unsulfured
  • 1 cup boiling water
  • 0.5 cup butter melted
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 2 eggs large

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Grease a 9x13-inch baking pan.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, sugar, ginger, cinnamon, cloves, and nutmeg.
  • Add molasses, boiling water, melted butter, and baking soda; mix until smooth.
  • Beat in eggs until well blended.
  • Pour batter into the prepared pan.
  • Bake in preheated oven for 35 minutes or until a toothpick inserted into center comes out clean.

Serve warm with whipped cream or a dusting of powdered sugar.
