Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Line a muffin tin with cupcake liners.
In a large bowl, combine the cake mix, grape soda, oil, and eggs. Mix until just combined, being careful not to overmix.
Fill each cupcake liner about 2/3 full.
Bake for 18-20 minutes, or until a toothpick inserted into the center comes out clean.
Let the cupcakes cool in the tin for a few minutes before transferring them to a wire rack to cool completely.
While the cupcakes are cooling, prepare the frosting. In a large bowl, beat the butter until light and fluffy. Gradually add the powdered sugar, alternating with the grape soda, until smooth.
Stir in the vanilla extract. Frost the cooled cupcakes and decorate as desired.
