Grilled Bourbon Chicken

Juicy chicken breasts marinated in a savory bourbon glaze, grilled to caramelized perfection and finished with a tangy BBQ glaze for a flavorful weeknight dinner.

  • 2 pounds boneless skinless chicken breasts
  • 0.5 cup low sodium soy sauce
  • 0.5 cup unsweetened applesauce
  • 0.5 cup finely chopped yellow onion
  • 2 teaspoons grated ginger
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon canola oil
  • 0.25 cup bourbon
  • 0.25 cup BBQ sauce
  • 2 tablespoons apple cider vinegar Bragg’s preferred
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • 0.25 teaspoons red pepper flakes Pinch
  • 0.5 cup low sodium chicken broth

Preparation Steps

  • Place the chicken breasts in a Ziploc bag and pound to an even thickness. Remove excess air and seal.
  • In a bowl, whisk together soy sauce, applesauce, onion, ginger, garlic, oil, bourbon, BBQ sauce, vinegar, brown sugar and red pepper flakes.
  • Reserve 1/3 cup of marinade for sauce; transfer remaining marinade to the bag with chicken. Marinate at least 30 minutes or overnight.
  • Preheat grill to medium high. Grill chicken 4 minutes per side or until cooked through.
  • Bring reserved marinade with broth to a boil, then simmer until slightly thickened, about 5 to 6 minutes.
  • Slice chicken, top with sauce, and garnish with scallions before serving.

Notes

Serve with steamed rice and grilled vegetables for a complete meal.
