Guinness soda bread

This easy Guinness soda bread uses self-rising flour, brown sugar, and a bottle of Guinness beer to create a soft, rich quick bread that's perfect served warm with butter.

  • 3 cups self-rising flour
  • 0.25 cup packed brown sugar
  • 11.2 ounces Guinness beer or any stout beer
  • 0.25 cup butter melted, divided

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F. Spray an 8x4-inch or 9x5-inch bread pan with nonstick cooking spray.
  • Whisk self-rising flour and brown sugar until no lumps remain. Stir in beer and 3 tablespoons of melted butter until batter is thick.
  • Spread batter evenly in prepared pan. Brush remaining 1 tablespoon of melted butter on top.
  • Bake for 40 to 50 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  • Let bread cool slightly before slicing. Serve warm or at room temperature, plain or with butter.

Notes

Store leftover bread wrapped tightly; it freezes well and can be reheated or thawed for easy serving later.
