hamburger tater tot casserole

A classic comfort food casserole featuring seasoned ground beef, peas, savory gravy, and topped with crispy tater tots baked to golden perfection.

  • 1 pound lean ground beef
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon kosher salt
  • 0.25 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • 2 cups prepared gravy
  • 0.25 cup beef or chicken stock optional for thinning gravy
  • 1.5 cups frozen peas
  • 48 pieces tater tots about 1.25 pounds

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 400°F.
  • Place ground beef in a large skillet over medium heat. Sprinkle with onion powder, garlic powder, salt, and pepper. Cook, breaking up into small pieces, until fully cooked. Drain excess fat.
  • Add prepared gravy and stock to the beef mixture. Stir until well combined. Then stir in frozen peas. Remove from heat and transfer to a 9x9-inch baking dish.
  • Top the beef mixture evenly with frozen tater tots. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until tater tots are golden brown and the mixture is bubbly.
  • Serve hot. Store leftovers in the refrigerator for up to 3 days.

Notes

This casserole is a delicious and easy weeknight dinner. You can substitute ground turkey or chicken for the beef if desired. For a shortcut, frozen hashbrowns can replace peas for added texture.
