Homemade Oreo Cookies

Delicious homemade Oreo cookies with a rich chocolate flavor and creamy filling.

Ingredients
  

Cookies

  • 1.5 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 0.75 cup unsweetened cocoa powder Dutch-processed
  • 1.5 tsp baking soda
  • 0.75 tsp baking powder
  • 0.5 tsp salt
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.75 cup vegetable shortening or butter
  • 2 large eggs

Filling

  • 0.75 cup butter softened
  • 3 cups powdered sugar
  • 2 tbsp milk
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, cocoa powder, baking soda, baking powder, and salt.
  • In a separate bowl, cream together sugar and shortening. Beat in eggs one at a time.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Roll dough out on a lightly floured surface to 1/8-inch thickness. Cut out circles using a cookie cutter.
  • Place cookies on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper.
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes. Let cool on baking sheet for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • For the filling, cream together butter and powdered sugar until light and fluffy. Beat in milk and vanilla extract.
  • Spread filling on the flat side of one cookie and top with another cookie.

Notes

Store cookies in an airtight container at room temperature.
