Homemade Vanilla Ice Cream

This is the easiest and creamiest homemade vanilla ice cream recipe, perfect for a quick and delicious treat. It uses only 5 simple ingredients!

  • 1.75 cup heavy cream
  • 1.25 cup whole milk
  • 0.75 cup sugar
  • 0.125 teaspoon fine sea salt
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract or 1 vanilla bean, split and seeds scraped

Preparation Steps

  • Pour 1 cup of the cream into a saucepan. Add the sugar and salt. If using a vanilla bean, scrape the seeds into the mixture and add the vanilla pod to the saucepan.
  • Warm the mixture over medium heat, just until the sugar dissolves. Remove from heat. Add the remaining cream, milk, and vanilla extract (if using extract). Whisk to combine and chill thoroughly in the refrigerator.
  • When ready to churn, remove the vanilla pod (if used), whisk the mixture again, and pour it into your ice cream maker. Churn according to the manufacturer's instructions.
  • Serve immediately for a soft-serve consistency, or transfer the finished ice cream to an airtight container and place it in the freezer until firm.
