Irish Soda Bread

This Irish Soda Bread recipe is easy to make and perfect for St. Patrick's Day or any day! It's a quick bread that requires no yeast and comes together in under an hour.

  • 4 cups All-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon Baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 1.75 cups Buttermilk
  • 2 tablespoons Butter melted, for brushing (optional)

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C).
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking soda, and salt.
  • Add buttermilk and mix until just combined. The dough will be sticky.
  • Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface. Gently shape into a round.
  • Place the dough on a baking sheet and cut a cross on top, about 1 inch deep.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until golden brown and a toothpick inserted in the center comes out clean.
  • Brush with melted butter (optional) and let cool slightly before serving.

Notes

Serve warm with butter and jam. Enjoy!
