Jalapeno Cheddar Pretzels

Delicious homemade pretzels filled with the spicy kick of jalapenos and the rich flavor of cheddar cheese.

Ingredients

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1.5 cups shredded sharp cheddar cheese
  • 2 tbsp chopped jalapenos seeded for less heat
  • 1 package active dry yeast (1/4 oz each)
  • 1.5 cups warm water about 110°F
  • 1 tbsp granulated sugar
  • 2 tsp salt
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter melted

Preparation Steps

  • In a small bowl, dissolve yeast and sugar in warm water. Let it sit until frothy, about 5 minutes.
  • In a large bowl, combine flour, salt, and melted butter. Add yeast mixture and mix until a dough forms.
  • Knead the dough on a floured surface until smooth, about 8 minutes. Place in a greased bowl, cover, and let rise until doubled in size, about 1 hour.
  • Preheat oven to 450°F (232°C). Divide the dough into eight pieces. Roll each piece into a rope and shape into a pretzel.
  • Sprinkle each pretzel with cheddar cheese and jalapenos, pressing gently to adhere.
  • Place pretzels on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Bake for 12-15 minutes until golden brown.

Notes

For extra flavor, serve with a side of spicy mustard.
