These scones are light, fluffy, and perfect for breakfast or afternoon tea.

  • 4 cups all-purpose flour plus more for dusting
  • 1 tablespoon baking powder
  • 0.5 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 cup cold unsalted butter cut into small cubes
  • 1.25 cups cold whole milk

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 400°F (200°C). Line a baking sheet with parchment paper.
  • In a large bowl, whisk together flour, baking powder, and salt. Cut in butter using a pastry blender or your fingers until the mixture resembles coarse crumbs.
  • Gradually add milk, stirring until just combined. Do not overmix.
  • Turn dough out onto a lightly floured surface and gently pat into a 1-inch thick round. Use a 2-inch biscuit cutter to cut out scones.
  • Place scones on the prepared baking sheet and bake for 18-20 minutes, or until golden brown.
  • Serve warm with your favorite toppings.

Notes

For best results, use very cold ingredients and handle the dough as little as possible.
