Nebraska Runzas Recipe

This is a traditional Nebraska Runzas recipe featuring seasoned beef and cabbage stuffed in warm bread. Perfect for a hearty meal!

  • 1.5 pounds ground beef lean
  • 1 cup chopped onion
  • 2 cups shredded cabbage fresh
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon pepper
  • 12 ounces bread dough homemade or store-bought

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat the oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  • In a skillet over medium heat, cook the ground beef and onion until the beef is browned and the onion is soft.
  • Add cabbage, salt, and pepper to the skillet. Cook until the cabbage is tender.
  • Roll out the dough on a lightly floured surface. Cut into six portions.
  • Place a portion of the beef mixture onto each piece of dough, fold, and seal the edges.
  • Place on a greased baking sheet and bake for 25 minutes or until golden brown.

Notes

Enjoy these runzas warm from the oven. Serve with mustard for extra flavor.
