Potatoes Au Gratin

This classic Potatoes Au Gratin recipe features thinly sliced potatoes baked in a creamy sauce with cheese. A perfect side dish for any meal!

  • 3 pounds Yukon Gold potatoes, peeled and thinly sliced
  • 2 cups Heavy cream
  • 1 cup Grated Gruyère cheese
  • 0.5 cup Grated Parmesan cheese
  • 1 teaspoon Salt
  • 0.5 teaspoon Black pepper
  • 0.25 teaspoon Nutmeg, grated

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Grease a 9x13 inch baking dish.
  • In a large bowl, combine the heavy cream, salt, pepper, and nutmeg.
  • Layer a third of the potatoes in the prepared baking dish. Pour some of the cream mixture over the potatoes. Sprinkle with a third of the Gruyère and Parmesan cheeses.
  • Repeat layers: potatoes, cream, and cheese. End with a layer of cheese.
  • Cover the dish with foil and bake for 45 minutes. Remove the foil and bake for another 15 minutes, or until the potatoes are tender and the top is golden brown.
  • Let stand for 10 minutes before serving.

Notes

For a richer flavor, you can add a clove of minced garlic to the cream mixture.
