Sugar Cookies Recipe

Classic sugar cookies, perfect for holidays or any day! These buttery cookies are easy to make and decorate.

  • 1 cup Unsalted Butter softened
  • 1 cup Granulated Sugar
  • 1 large Egg
  • 1 tsp Vanilla Extract
  • 3 cups All-Purpose Flour
  • 1 tsp Baking Powder
  • 0.5 tsp Salt

Preparation Steps

  • In a large bowl, cream together the butter and sugar until light and fluffy.
  • Beat in the egg and vanilla extract.
  • In a separate bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt.
  • Gradually add the dry ingredients to the wet ingredients, mixing until just combined.
  • Wrap the dough in plastic wrap and chill for at least 30 minutes.
  • Preheat oven to 375°F (190°C). Line baking sheets with parchment paper.
  • On a lightly floured surface, roll out the dough to 1/4 inch thickness. Cut out shapes using cookie cutters.
  • Place cookies on the prepared baking sheets and bake for 8-10 minutes, or until the edges are lightly golden brown.
  • Let cookies cool on the baking sheets for a few minutes before transferring to a wire rack to cool completely.
  • Decorate with frosting and sprinkles as desired.

Notes

Store in an airtight container at room temperature.
