Sweet Potato Casserole

This sweet potato casserole is a classic Thanksgiving side dish, made with a creamy sweet potato base, topped with a buttery pecan crumble.

  • 3 pounds sweet potatoes
  • 0.75 cup unsalted butter, softened
  • 0.75 cup granulated sugar
  • 0.5 cup milk
  • 2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 0.5 teaspoon ground cinnamon
  • 0.25 teaspoon salt
  • 1 cup pecan halves chopped
  • 0.75 cup all-purpose flour
  • 0.75 cup packed brown sugar

Preparation Steps

  • Preheat oven to 350°F (175°C). Boil sweet potatoes until tender, about 20 minutes. Drain and mash.
  • In a bowl, combine mashed sweet potatoes, 0.25 cup butter, granulated sugar, milk, vanilla, cinnamon, and salt. Mix well.
  • In a separate bowl, combine pecans, flour, brown sugar, and remaining 0.5 cup butter. Mix until crumbly.
  • Pour sweet potato mixture into a greased baking dish. Sprinkle pecan crumble on top.
  • Bake for 30-40 minutes, or until topping is golden brown.

Notes

This casserole is best served warm. You can prepare the sweet potato base and pecan topping in advance and assemble just before baking.
