Instructions
Preparation Steps
Heat milk and cream in a saucepan over medium heat until it just starts to simmer.
In a separate bowl, whisk together egg yolks and sugar until pale and fluffy.
Gradually pour the hot milk mixture into the egg yolks, whisking constantly.
Return the mixture to the saucepan and cook over low heat, stirring constantly, until the custard thickens enough to coat the back of a spoon.
Stir in vanilla extract and a pinch of salt. Let cool before serving.
Notes
This custard can be used as a base for other desserts like ice cream or bread pudding.
